Abingdon and Washington County are a mecca for recreation enthusiasts. Our properties are an easy walk or bike to the entrance to the Virginia Creeper Trail, a nationally renowned multi-use trail for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. This 34-mile trail makes a gradual incline to the top of Whitetop Mountain and ends just over the border in North Carolina. Walk or ride your bike to the Abingdon Trail head from our properties. You can also enjoy our newest, Abingdon Urban Pathway which takes you around the downtown area.
Other known area trails include the Appalachian Trail, Iron Mountain Trail, Daniel Boone Trail , The Mendota Trail and The Channels. The Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, easily accessed from neighboring Damascus, Virginia, has a number of novice and challenging mountain bike trails. Guide service is available.
Also in the immediate area are a number of TVA lakes, all hosting swimming as well as fishing, float boats and water sports. South Holston Lake is an easy eight-mile drive from the cabin.
Abingdon is home of the world-famous Barter Theatre, the State Theater of Virginia. The trendy East End of Abingdon, where our properties are located is home to some of Abingdon's finest restaurants, shops and galleries as well as a popular micro- brewery. The Arts Depot, Southwest Virginia Cultural Arts Center and William King Regional Arts Center offer artists-in-residence, galleries, gift shops and classes. Main Street Abingdon offers a fantastic shopping experience including antiques, galleries, boutiques, gourmet and health food shops and more. The popular Abingdon Vineyards offers music and special events.
Abingdon is a perfect location for the Bristol Motor Speedway and other sights in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina.
